Selecting Cells

Click any content cell to select just that cell.
If any cells are already selected, you may shift-click to extend the selection to include multiple cells.

Click and drag to select multiple cells in a rectangular area.

Press arrow keys or Tab to select the next cell up, down, left or right of the currently-selected cell.

Arrows keys only work when you are not editing cell content. If multiple cells are selected, keyboard commands operate on the top-left cell of the selection, and select only a single cell.

Using the Index Column

The leftmost column is the index column. It displays the number of its row, and the index or indexes of the card or cards that it generates. (Remember that, although most rows generate just one card, there are various ways that a row can "expand" to create multiple cards.) The index column does not contain card content, and cannot be edited.

Click in the index column to make the main document window display the Layout panel in Preview mode, and show the first card that the clicked row generates.

If you are viewing a preview of a card while you edit its content, the preview will update automatically as you type so you can immediately see the changes you are making on the card.

Click and drag the index column of a row to change the order of the rows in your table. If your current selection covers multiple rows, dragging any of those rows will drag them all. If you have no selection, or you click and drag a row that has no selected cells, only that row will move.

Right-click or control-click an index cell to reveal a popup menu of row commands.

The commands are:

Using the Title Row

The topmost row is the title row, where you enter the titles of your columns.

Click and drag the title of a column to change the order of the columns in your table.

Right-click or control-click a column title to reveal a popup menu of column commands.

The commands are:

The Cell Contextual Menu

Right-click or control-click a content cell to reveal a popup menu of column commands.

The commands are:

Note: The Copy and Increment commands will affect all cells in the indicated direction, if only one cell is selected. If multiple cells are selected, only those cells can be affected.

Copying and Pasting Cells

Select one or more cells, then select Edit > Copy (or type ⌘-C) to copy their content. Then select another cell or range of cells, and select Edit > Paste (or type ⌘-V) to replace the selected cell(s) content with the copied content.

If the selected cell area for pasting is smaller (in any dimension) than the pasted content, the selection is ignored and all cells needed to hold the pasted content will be changed.

If the selected cell area for pasting is larger (in any dimension) than the pasted content, only selected cells are affected, and the pasted content is "tiled" into the selected area.

For example, if you select and copy a single cell, then select multiple cells and paste, every selected cell's text will be replaced with the text from the copied cell.

The Editor Toolbar

At the top of the CE window there are four toolbars, similar in appearance to the main document window's Effects Toolbars. The topmost of these is the Editor toolbar. The functions in this toolbar affect the content editor itself.

The functions are:
