The Card Layout Toolbar

On the left side of the Card Layout area is a vertical column of buttons called the Card Layout Toolbar.

The Card Layout Toolbar.

The buttons in this toolbar affect the user interface of the Card Layout's view and controls (and in one case, the active Filter). They do not affect your actual layouts or the appearance of your printed or exported cards.

From top to bottom, these are the buttons and the features they control:

Movement Lock

Select the Movement Lock button to turn the Movement Lock feature on and off.

The Movement Lock feature allows you to turn off the ability to drag or resize card items using the mouse. Use this feature to avoid accidentally nudging items out of place when you want to select them and make changes, but don't want to accidentally move or resize them with an imprecise mouse motion.

Drag-to-Resize Behavior

Select the Drag-to-Resize Behavior button to toggle through three options for changing an item's size by dragging.

The options are:

Move only the dragged edge

Move the dragged edge and the opposite edge, symmetrically

Move all edges, preserving the item's aspect ratio.

Show Handles in Preview

Select the Show Handles in Preview button to turn the Show Handles in Preview feature on and off.

When this feature is on, selected card items are shown outlined in red while in Preview mode, just as they are in normal edit mode. This allows you to see which items are selected, and move and resize them by dragging, while in Preview mode. (Actually you can move and resize in Preview mode without using this feature; but turning it on makes it much easier to see what you're doing.)

Rotate Card Layout View

Select the Rotate View button to rotate the card layout display 90° counter-clockwise.

This button simply rotates the entire card view. This can be useful when your cards feature items that are rotated; these can be difficult to edit when they do not appear "upright" to you. You cse the Rotate View button to rotate the entire card in the window, so that the items you want to work with are conveniently right-side up to you. Rotating the view does not affect printing or exporting in any way.

Validation Display

Select the Validation Display button to toggle through the three options for displaying error and warning badges on card items.

Validation means checking your project for errors and warnings. Multideck does this automatically as you work.

By default, any card items that generate errors or warnings will display a "badge", a small icon to tell you that the item has errors or warnings. Selecting the Validation Display button toggles through three different display modes for these badges:

Whle we recommend remaining aware of problems in your project, you may turn off the badge display if you find it to be distracting while you work.

Clear Filter

Select the Clear Filter button to remove all filtering.

This button has the same effect as the Include All button in the Filter sheet. It cancels any filter currently in effect.

Export Card

Select the Export Card button to create an image file on disk for the currently-selected card. This button has the same effect as the File > Export Card Image menu item.
